Wik Kath Min Community Celebration

Wik Kath Min Community Celebration

**The Wik Kath Min Community Celebration will be held on Saturday 9 November 2019. Further details will be provided closer to the event.

Source: Bernie McCarthy, PSM [mailto:ceo@aurukun.qld.gov.au] ** The Wik Kath Min Community Action Group proposed this event as a centrepiece of the campaign to promote the Wik Kath Min Community Values Statement and to bring families together to celebrate good stories in Aurukun.

The Wik Kath Min team are very busy working with community members to prepare for this event. In the lead up:

• The men at Cape York Employment are making 40 wooden planter boxes (thank you Andy and Kiki and the crew!) and the women's group are growing plants for the boxes (thank you Emma for organising this!) - these will be handed out to families attending the event.

• Barbara Bandicootcha and Kailung Hudson will be painting artwork with the kids at the school, in preparation for the parade and children's art show. The children's art will be inspired by the new school values: We are Peaceful, We are Happy, We are Proud.

• We are finalising for publication the children's book, Harriet Wants to Grow a Garden, which contains illustrations from Aurukun school students. 200 copies will be handed out at the celebration.

You are all welcome to join in the celebration and we'd really appreciate it if you could post one of the attached flyers on your noticeboard to let your staff and clients know about the event.

If you or any of your clients would like to get more involved in supporting this event, please see Barbara Bandicootcha or Emma Burchill or contact Louise Limerick on 0423 810 497. We would love to hear from you!

Let's all work together to Grow the Good Story in Aurukun!
